TRIP REPORT October 2017 Gus & Marylin – Hosts for Castaways’ “Rendezvous on the Riviera
Our trip to Hidden Beach was another successful “Rendezvous on the Riviera” event for Castaways. I will start by stating that Ms. America (the Concierge manager at Hidden Beach) is “the new chief.” She was amazing to work with. She was present every day and very much hands-on, working many nights late hours. Making sure the dinners and the evening’s entertainment was all set and satisfactory to the guests and us.
The resort has gone thru some upgrades. The entire pool, lazy river, and hot tubs both by the pool and in the Moonlight lounge were re-tiled. New granite on the swim up bar. The pool grill made larger, three times the original size of it. All the buildings are repainted in white with orange, plus new shingles on the roof. The Hidden Beach lobby got a new look. The palapa roof on the inside of the lobby was removed. The curtains removed and replaced with white blinds. Giving the lobby a more modern look and to easily see inside from passing guests. All air conditioners were in perfect working condition. The only negative comment is that the hot tub by the pool or inside the Moonlight lounge does not have jets so no bubbles.
Special highlights of the week:
- Foam party did happen on Monday, and it was a huge success.
- Our group excursion was the nude catamaran that sailed from Lomas Travel’s Maroma Beach adjacent to El Dorado Maroma Resort, about 45 minutes from Hidden Beach. Maroma surprised us with being able to have the nude lunch back on the beach starting with our group trip. This has not been able to happen for a year now. New arrangements between Karisma and the government have taken place, and they will now be able to continue this special lunch.
- At El Dorado Resort they have started creating some sea barriers and clearing of the rocks. They plan on pumping in the sand to create a nice sandy beach. So far 20% of the beach at El Dorado beach (north end of the property) has been done. But from my understanding, it is something they are trying to continue south and also into Hidden Beach.
- We added Halloween as one of the theme nights. The resort did an amazing job. From a special spooky dinner, completely Halloween decorated and a special show at the moonlight with zombies.
Overall this was a great week, and we had nine couples already signed up for next year’s Castaways “Rendezvous on the Riviera” event. Marylin
